This may be music you are looking for! Mar 27, 2010
By K. Leonard I am very pleased to find this compilation of music from the TV series. You can sample them here and see what they are. No, these songs do not represent music from other cultures. Yes, they are a number of instrumental tracks that may appeal to fans of lots of great instrumental artists of recent generations, like for instance Mike Oldfield, Jean Michel Jarre, Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk or more many various modern style film composers who can incorporate a beat (drum machine). I've always thought Ian's Ritchie's "WindPower", the theme of Globe Trekker Series, was a wonderful tune. I hope people who enjoy this stuff will find this album. I'm glad I did.

Not as ordered! May 11, 2008
By M. Degroot Do not purchase this item - unless you are quite sure that Amazon has their inventory system corrected and up to date. What is identified for purchase as a music CD arrives instead as a DVD - not at all the same item. I see from a previous review that what might have been an isolated mis-ship is a problem with Amazon's inventory system related to this item.

A great addition to Globe Trekker CDs! Apr 07, 2008

Unlike the previous reviewer, I had no trouble finding that this was an audio CD to be LISTENED to, not WATCHED.
'Ambient Journeys' is an exploration through Globe Trekker by way of music. If you are a fan of the series, most pieces will evoke the episodes they belong to. If not, they remind me of the now hard-to-find-on-radio program- 'Hearts of Space'. This CD is excellent for listening to on road trips or when you want to spend quality down-time listening and relaxing to extended pieces of music. These are not the short, jumpy songs from the series. They are more involved and longer.
I give this CD FIVE stars for the excellence overall of this CD.
Ordered this CD, got a different DVD! Jan 05, 2012
By S. Melsted Stop! Don't order this unless you really WANT the DVD: "Globe Trekker Travel Guide: Egypt." Two attempts to order the audio CD "Globe Trekker - Ambient Journeys" from Amazon resulted in shipments of Egypt the DVD.

Tedious & Inauthentic Mar 22, 2010
By S. J. Goodwin This is the dullest, most inauthentic "World" compilation I have yet to hear. The musicianship is indifferent and watered-down. Ambient should not mean "hopelessly boring". I'm so glad I only borrowed this CD, as opposed to buying it.
Those seeking a gentle introduction to the music of a specific culture would be better off browsing by country and then selecting "compilation", or by entering "Putumayo Presents" or "The Rough Guide to" into the Music search menu and clicking "Go!". Those CD compilations hold the listener's hand a little bit by including only the most radio-friendly tracks (especially Putumayo), but there is usually at least one or two good tracks per CD in those compilations, which can turn the listener on to a particular band or style, and from there on down the rabbit hole into a culture's music. I would also recommend the Deep Forest CD series--French producers & beats, paired with singers and music from all over Africa. It's not for the purist, but if you're seeking to dip a toe into chilled-out "international" music, it's a pleasant start.
