Globe Trekker: California

Situated on the West Coast, California is the most populous state in America. From the gold rushes of the 1800's to the Hollywood of today, California has long been the land of dreams. Traveler Justine Shapiro begins her journey in Palm Springs, a sparkling oasis in the middle of the desert. From there she travels to sprawling Los Angeles and tours the Hollywood Hills. Heading north she continues to beautiful Big Sur before heading inland to the Sierra Nevada Mountains. She ends her journey in Humboldt County - home of the Giant Redwoods. Along the way... · Celebrity spot in Hollywood · Marvel at some of the worlds tallest trees · Enjoy the music at Garberville Reggae Festival · Take a hike in the breathtaking Yosemite National Park · Enliven your taste buds in Gilroy - the self proclaimed garlic capital of the world

1Very Disappointing  Oct 10, 2009
By A. Trenten "vtrenten"
A more appropriate title would be: Bizarre California. Too many silly visits to spots like a costumer in Palm Springs, and squatters in the dessert. I love many of the Globe Trekker DVDs, but this one was a big disappointment.

5We thought this highly entertaining!  Jun 08, 2010
By C. Jones "bascelflt"
I so disagree with the other two reviewers about this episode. My husband and I ENJOY the treks off the beaten path and these are places in California we will never get to visit AND wouldn't even know they were THERE to visit! The man building and painting the rock mountain, "slab city" and its background. We didn't realize so much of California was desert until we saw this. The BEST part was the garlic fesival (who would have thought people would make garlic flavored ice cream?), and the sight of Justine in the Redwood roots - you have to see that to believe it! We have seen so many California videos on the wineries and beaches that this was a fun look at our third largest state.

1More entertainment that facts  Oct 10, 2007
By L. Horowitz
The DVD was somewhat entertaining, but lacking in data on California. I was looking for the California story, not one person's personal experience in a few locations.
